Mohamad Rafad, a young and dynamic engineer, embarked on his career with a BTech degree, which paved the way for his initial professional experience at a renowned
multinational company. For three years, he honed his skills and gained valuable insights into the corporate world. However, his true passion lay in the realm of business.
Driven by this passion, Rafad made a bold decision to move to Oman, where he aimed to immerse himself in the fundamentals of business. He started from the ground up, working in a supermarket for three years. This hands-on experience was invaluable, allowing him to understand the intricacies of business operations and customer behavior.
The Birth of FOODONFLY
Armed with this knowledge, Rafad returned to India, determined to make his entrepreneurial dream a reality. He founded FOODONFLY, a food delivery app that promised to revolutionize the industry. Rafad invested a substantial amount of resources into the venture, recruiting top IT professionals and partnering with numerous hotels across Kerala.
However, the unforeseen advent of the COVID-19 pandemic dealt a crushing blow to his dream. The once-thriving business was forced to shut down, leaving Rafad with a heart-wrenching question: “What next?”
A New Path: Education and Family
Undeterred, Rafad pursued further education, completing his MTech and then embarking on a PhD journey. During this period, he married Dr. Thamanna, a dedicated dental surgeon working in a hospital in Ernakulam.
The Spark of a New Venture
Dr. Thamanna, with her keen interest in health and fitness, introduced Rafad to the benefits of usingTraditional cookwares, such as cast iron pans, brass & bronze, soapstone kalchatti, wooden chopping boards & platters. She believed in the health advantages and superior taste that these materials brought to cooking. However, they realized that the public was largely unaware of these benefits.
This realization sparked a new idea. Why not combine their expertise and passions to promote the use of traditional cookware? With a shared vision, the doctor-engineer duo decided to leave their high-profile jobs and embark on a new venture.
The Birth of Bawshar Cookwares
With a mission to raise awareness about the benefits of traditional cookware, Rafad and Thamanna launched Bawshar Cookwares. Despite skepticism and mockery from many, they were resolute. Rafad’s father provided unwavering support, giving them the confidence to move forward.
They began with social awareness programs, educating the public about the health benefits and superior cooking results of traditional cookware. Bawshar grabbed the heart of a wide range of happy customers.
